What Are Semiconductors, Light Diodes And Sensors?

Posted in High technologies by admin on the August 13th, 2008

What is a semi-conductor? It’s generally made of materials with special resistance (it is between the resistance of a conductor and a non-conductor). Variations of temperature or added dashes also change the resistance.
The expression “impurities” refers to the other components added to the material. The final combination labels the semi-conductors as power semiconductor devices of type-n and type-t.
Diodes as well as transistors are made of these two variants of semi-conductors. It’s so that today the most actual material for semi-conductor manufacture is silicon.
In order to send the flow of electrical current in only one direction diodes are necessary. They are made of semiconductor substance. There is a component of (positive) combination, - (negative) construction and so-called pn-transfer appointed as barrier level in each diode. Diodes create electrical circuits changing between direct and alternating electrical current. Just a 1/2 of the processes or cycle is to be completed because diodes let current go only in one direction. Specialists call such a junction a rectifier.
Speaking of the light diodes known as LED, they are necessary to get light at low voltages not creating warmth. In PC, video cameras and mobile telephones, various devices these days one may find light diodes because those diodes are used to sign the idle state.
Moore’s law gave way to the development of thyristors theory. Lithography is the most important factor of manufacturing different power semi-conductor gadgets at smaller cost. As optical lithography is already actual no more, there’s now a search for other techniques. Admittedly ultraviolet lithography and nano-imprint lithography are to turn into the alternative methods of optical lithography. Since recently scientists also consider x-ray lithography and electron beam lithography as good substitutes. In Russia pulsed power devices were discovered. Sensors are applied in many devices for lots of destinations. The voltage sensors find their application in business, manufacture and personal applications. The form and size of the sensor can be different according to the kind of device. And they may be small (as in several light detectors) or complicated (detectors that react on radiation changes).
It’s still impossible for the voltage sensors to function on their own. The power system dispatchers are used to provide careful control over lots of actions like opening or closing circuit breakers in substation, controlling voltage, frequency, power flow and other system properties, monitoring the planned interchange of power between the neighboring power systems, monitoring and working with different system alarms.
The dispatchers work well in all these circumstances if they are supplied with a detailed snap-shot of the power system. The information is received from some computers in various substations. The status of CB’s, fuses holders, analog values and isolators or other kinds of substation level data acquisition was for the first time found out in the RTU. The biggest part in export is the prerogative of Russian Federation and China.
